There's always the Nokia 770, which is really cheap now that it's a grandparent, if you can find it. Not much active development for it anymore, but it works like a champ if you just want something to use with some familiar Linux apps.
A similar device is the Pepper Pad which also runs a Linux OS. Palm announced a Linux tablet called the "Foleo" last year, but then they cancelled it.
You could try hacking Linux onto the Sony Vaio UX or the Samsung Q1, but it doesn't look very complete.
There's the ASUS Eee PC, which is cheap and comes with a Linux OS. The VIA NanoBook is another pretty small laptop that can run Linux and might fit the bill.
