Perhaps I should explain myself better..
I have a gateway computer with 2 nics.. One goes to the cable modem via DHCP..
The other (10.0.0.1) goes to my lan.. This computer runs a DNS server which automatically configures to a wan DNS server.. I point my internal computers to 10.0.0.1 and the gateway computer will look up external DNS queries for the lan no problem.. But on my lan I want to be able to 'ping a_local_computer' and have the DNS server on the gateway computer translate a_local_computer to a local IP address.. I know I can do this by putting a local '/etc/hosts' file on all my computers.. But I would rather have the gateway computer translate local DNS requests to my internal 10.0.0.x if no domain is specified do I don't have to bother adding a '/etc/hosts' file to my local computers..
Any ideas?
