It's not difficult to use day to day if you know your way around a computer (which it seems you do), but it can be difficult to get set up and comfortable initially. Don't be discouraged. You might struggle through how-to's and IRC help and several reinstalls for weeks before you finally get used to it, but you'll probably learn more in those weeks than you ever have or will again. Or I might just be scaring you for no reason if you have well-supported hardware and are planning to use an easy-to-install distribution and KDE/Gnome stuff. Either way, it's worth it in the end.
