[wuug-list] A New Member?

I'm actually partly responsible for the join form issue on the website
(oops).

A newer release of Ubuntu linux has been released last week and it is
quite good. I suggest downloading an image of the CD, burning it and
installing it on your laptop. Since you mentioned you had problems
connecting to the internet, that might not be possible, but if a meeting
ends up getting scheduled for Oct. or Nov. (*hint* *hint*, Alan), I am
likely to bring a few CDs. I've done that for the last release 6 months
ago.

Also, most modern distros will need to download some of the applications
you want to run as well as their dependencies, simply because it would
be hard to fit so much material on a CD, so although I've never heard of
'slackintosh', you will have the same problem with Debian as well as a
lot of other distros.

I think a solution to your problem might be to find a way to access the
internet with your laptop. Are you having technical difficulties
connecting it to the net?

Thanks,
Xavier
